Today at work, I got an overwhelming feeling to write a blog about creating intentions. I even had a name for it: Living Life on Purpose. I resisted the thought that quickly came to mind, “When are you going to find the time?” I was already working full-time, interning for another company, and in graduate school. But the feeling wouldn’t go away. Perhaps, I had something to share that someone out there needed to hear.
Not too long ago, I was miserable — I had lost my identity. Sure I was a scholar in grad school and taking care of my family, but something was missing. I realized that I loved teaching and wanted to work in that capacity again. I made my intention in my journal and waited patiently interview after interview, disappointment after disappointment, but I did not lose faith. Instead, I planned my commute to work, what I was going to wear, and where I would be having my morning coffee, just as if I already had the job. If I focused on the 10% unemployment rate instead, I may not have succeeded.
Living Life on Purpose is about making intentions about what you want to experience in your life then watching your desires unfold. The more you practice asking for what you want and trusting the outcome to be even better than you imagined, the more amazed you are going to be with the simplicity of living “your” life on purpose.
Have you thought about going back to school to get your degree, enroll in art school and paint on your first monster canvas, live abroad and mingle with the locals learning the language as you go, or journaling in Paris while sipping an espresso? How about mastering ballroom dancing, preparing a gourmet meal at home with an exquisite bottle of wine, writing a thriller of a novel, or dressing up to go to the opera all by yourself? Does any of this sound like something you might want to experience?
In Living Life on Purpose, I will be sharing my experiences past, present, and yet to be explored with the hope that you will be inspired to make your own intentions a reality. Along the way, I will post some simple techniques that I have learned from others who are living extraordinary lives, helping others along the way, and creating a legacy for themselves. I will also add links that I find have value and inspirational. I encourage you to keep a journal to list your passions and intentions and even paste images of your desires. Make it fun. So let’s get started! What will be your first intention?
Hey,
Great start. I have you on my “Bookmarks” so I’ll come around every once and while to see what advice you can give me.
Keep it up Mom,
